Swall Meadows

The little community of Swall Meadows is located in southern Mono County. It has about 200 property lots of which about 135 have completed homes. The community is a mix of retired folks, business owners and entrepreneurs, professionals, tradesmen, and vacationers. The governing structure in Mono County is an elected Board of Supervisors and the County seat is in Bridgeport. As of 2024 Swall Meadows is in District 2 and the Supervisor is Rhonda Duggan.

The community is surrounded by public lands managed by the Inyo National Forest, the Bureau of Land Management, and California Fish and Wildlife, as well as privately held wildland preserve easements. Communication and cooperation among the many agencies and entities is a hallmark of the community.

Fire is a natural component of the ecosystem, and a potential hazard for every property in Swall Meadows. Preparation and planning are key to enjoying all that the community has to offer. Through the work of the Fire Safe Council, and the Fire Department, many resources are available to help you maintain a fire resistant and resilient property. Vegetation clearance, house hardening, and installing water reservoirs in areas not served by fire hydrants, are important ingredients to keep you and your neighbors safe. The Fire Safe Council assemble a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (the “Red Notebook” ) to inform and guide all community members in managing properties in fire prone ecosystems.
